Program Description: Children’s Specialized Services provides Educationally-Related Mental Health Services to special education students throughout Alameda County. The internships available for the upcoming school year could include provision of individual therapy, family therapy, case management and consultation with public school staff. The interns would also conduct Educationally-Related Mental Health Services assessments (psychosocial assessment) to determine eligibility for services. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to learn about mental health in school settings, the special education system, diagnosing mental health issues and assessing mental health needs.
Placement Period: September to May
Program/Placement Hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Preferred Discipline / Experience: MSW; prefer interns with experience in the schools or with school-aged children
First or Second Year Students: Prefer 2nd year students but 1st year students with experience in the schools could be considered.
Supervision & Support: Weekly supervision with LCSW; intern consultation group and intern seminar also provided weekly.
