We provide short-term residential alternatives to psychiatric hospitalization, or support following hospitalization, for individuals in active psychiatric distress who need support to cope and heal. These programs are embedded in the community and speed up recovery while creating a long-term plan for wellness.

Services: Amber House is a voluntary crisis stabilization unit (CSU) and voluntary crisis residential treatment (CRT) program. Amber House CSU is a 10-bed voluntary-only CSU whose purpose is to assess individuals who are having a mental health crisis and need assessment, stabilization, and brief treatment. The service is available to individuals for up to 24 hours.

Services: Woodroe Place provides short-term residential psychiatric services in a highly structured setting designed to meet the treatment needs of severely mentally ill adults who require 24-hour supervision. The program accommodates 12 individuals for a period of 2-4 weeks each. All residents have a history of mental illness and are admitted on a voluntary basis by referral from in-patient psychiatric hospitals or community agencies.
With staff assistance, each resident develops an individual plan for regaining stability. Residents learn how to:
- Manage symptoms of illness
- Monitor medication
- Maintain personal hygiene
- Stay clean and sober
- Resolve life’s daily conflicts
- Access community resources
Each plan contains a structured process for using personal and community support systems to stay on track and maintain independence.

Services: This 16-bed facility includes a full staff of clinicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, residential counselors and peers on-site and on-call 24 hours a day to provide wrap-around support. Services are designed using Evidenced-Based Practices (EBP) such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Seeking Safety, as well as Telecare’s Recovery-Centered Clinical System (RCCS).
Eligibility: Adult residents of Alameda County in California who are diagnosed with serious mental illness, who are experiencing a mental health crisis, and who may have a co-occurring substance use disorder.
