Program Description: At Seneca Family of Agencies, our mission is to help children and families through the most difficult times of their lives. Seneca has dedicated itself to becoming a “system of care” agency providing a comprehensive continuum of community-based and family-focused treatment services for children and families. Seneca’s continuum of care now includes in-home wraparound services; foster family-based treatment; mobile crisis response services; integrated day treatment and special education services; and public school-based mental health services. Seneca has employment and practicum opportunities in Northern California, Southern California, and the Central Coast of California, as well as Washington State.

Seneca offers a wide variety of fieldwork placements including: public or non-public school-based programs, community-based programs, wraparound programs, probation services, and crisis response programs, outpatient mental health clinics, foster care and adoption programs; all dedicated to serving children and their families throughout California. Programs in the bay area are based within the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma. Programs in Central Coast of California are based in Monterey County and San Luis Obispo County. Programs in Southern California are located in Orange County and Ventura Counties. Programs in Washington are in King and Pierce counties.

Placement Period: August/September – May/June

Program/Placement Hours: 16-24 hours per week

Preferred Discipline/Experience: Seneca provides fieldwork/practicum placements for students completing MSW, MFT, PsyD, School Psych, SLP, and Education Specialist Credential programs. Experience working with children and/or families is preferred.

First or Second Year Students Preferred: The majority of placements at Seneca are a better fit for second years, although a few first year placements are available.

Supervision & Training:

  • An intensive 2-week (M-F 9am-5:30pm) orientation to Seneca’s population served, values, philosophy, and practice at the beginning of their fieldwork placement.
  • Training and supervision focused on the Seneca treatment model.
  • Training presented on a wide range of topics applicable to working with children and their families.
  • Weekly supervision provided by a Seneca clinician with an appropriate degree or license.
  • Weekly group supervision when applicable to the student’s fieldwork agreement.
  • Spring intern hiring fair to facilitate interns applying for Associate roles.

Stipends Available: 1st year students (16 hours per week): $600/month
2nd year students (24 hours per week): $1000/month
